Dyslexia and Related Neurological Differences

What is Dyslexia and Related Neurological Differences?

Ensuring your team is working to its full potential is essential for your success and the most satisfying position for everyone. In reality we know that this is not always the case for a variety of reasons.

If an individual is struggling at work this may be due to Dyslexia or other neurological difficulty which may or may not have been previously diagnosed.

Do you or any of your employees:

  • Easily lose the thread of a conversation?
  • Find it hard to remember things in the short term?
  • Have problems prioritising workload?
  • Have difficulties keeping focus in taking direction?
  • Have poor organisational and time management skills?
  • Have difficulties with literacy and/or numeracy?

We specialise in diagnostic assessment and support for adults at work with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and Dyscalculia. We also identify signs of Attention Deficit (Hyper-Activity) Disorder (ADD and ADHD) and Asperger’s syndrome. The aim of this is to provide guidance to the employee and employer.

We provide guidance and support in 3 main ways:

  • Diagnostic Assessment
  • Developmental Coaching
  • Awareness Training

The Equality Act 2010 brought together all of the discrimination acts into one. The Act consisted of 9 protected characteristics such as age, race, sex and disability. The definition of a disability is if he/she has ‘a physical or mental impairment which has substantial long term effect on his/her ability to carry out normal day to day activities’. Dyslexia and related conditions are classified as a disability.

Diagnostic Assessment

If you are struggling at work, you can contact us directly or through your employer.

We will carry out a thorough detailed assessment and diagnosis with a qualified psychologist. Recommendations and reasonable adjustments are tailored to the needs of the individual at work. This will be detailed in a full report written in plain English.

If you wish we can discuss the report content with you and your employer and any other authorised third party to explain it more fully.

Developmental Coaching

Once the diagnostic assessment has taken place it is essential that the individual is appropriately supported.

We offer developmental coaching to develop skills and encourage behavioural change. At the heart of our coaching is the recognition and maximisation of the skills that the individual has demonstrated. This can be particularly helpful where there is a new diagnosis and also to address any concerns with their work.

As Dyslexia and related conditions can have quite different effects on the individual and as roles and responsibilities vary, it is important to have an individual approach.
